Nokia Siemens Networks Sheds Optical Business, Focuses On Wireless

Nokia Siemens Networks isn't a name you hear very often in the consumer space, but it's behind quite a few connections made around the world. The networking company has just announced an agreement with Marlin Equity Partners to sell its Optical Networks business unit. The deal would result in the unit being established as an independent company, and the move is allowing NSN to shed pieces of its past and move one step closer to being a "mobile broadband specialist." It's clear that wireline as a whole is going to play second fiddle to wireless going forward, but what remains to be seen is how NSN approaches the market with such a monkey off of its back.
