Nokia To Release Windows 8 Tablet June 2012?

Recent times haven’t exactly been easy for Nokia, but the Fins are still plugging away, particularly on Windows-based devices. According to a report in Les Echos (a French newspaper), Nokia will produce a Windows 8-based tablet as early as June 2012.

According to the Les Echos article, head of Nokia France Paul Amsellem slipped in a mention of the tablet when he was discussing Nokia’s line of Windows Phone 7 smartphones, which will include Series 7 and Series 3 devices to join the recently-announced Lumia 710 and Lumia 800.

Other than a little off-the-cuff quip by Amsellem, there aren’t any other details on the rumored Windows 8 tablet, but it’s exciting to hear that Nokia is planning to dig into the Windows-based device market in full force.

Nokia has seen its market share plummet precipitously of late as it transitions from Symbian to Windows Phone 7 and endures some missteps in the form of the release and the immediate axing of a Meego phone, forum attacks, and big layoffs. During this time, as we’ve discussed the market share situation, we’ve had to qualify Nokia’s sudden freefall by noting that things just might turn around when its Windows-based devices hit stores. It sounds like that time is coming very soon.
