Nokia X6 Launches With Snapdragon 636, 6GB RAM And Notched FHD+ Display

HMD Global has officially resurrected the Nokia X-series with the introduction of the Nokia X6 at a launch event in Beijing, China. The new phone is yet another Android device to adopt a notched display similar in style to Apple's flagship iPhone X (the Essential Phone was actually the first handset to use a notch). Unlike the iPhone X, however, the Nokia X6 is a mid-range smartphone built around Qualcomm's Snadragon 636 chipset.

To HMD Global's credit, you wouldn't know the Nokia X6 is a mid-range phone just by looking at it. The device sports a premium build with a 5.8-inch FHD+ (2280x1080) display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and has shiny metallic exterior with rounded corners. It also boasts a 95 percent screen wrapped in a metal frame, with blue, black ,and silver color options. That is where the notch comes into play.

This is the first Nokia handset to have a notch, though not the first Android phone to adopt one. It houses the device's front-facing 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture, and features face unlock technology.


Around back are two more camera lenses, including another 16-megapixel shooter with an f/2.0 aperture (same as the front) paired with a 5-megapixel monochrome camera with an f/2.2 aperture. Seeing another mid-range handset with a dual-camera arrangement on the back speaks to the popularity of what has become a relatively recent design strategy—having two cameras allows for fancier photography effects.

There will be three SKUs for buyers to choose from. The lowest end version sports 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, followed by a middle SKU with the same amount of RAM and twice the storage at 64GB. At the top end, the Nokia X6 comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There's also a microSD card slot inside the SIM tray for users who want to add more storage, at the expense of plopping in a second SIM card.

The Nokia X6 has a 3,060 mAh battery. It charges over USB-C and supports Quick Charge 3.0. The phone ships with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

China will see the phone first, with prices starting at 1,299 yuan (~$204).
