ASUS Allegedly Confirms NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super Turing Graphics Cards
The list of graphics cards based on NVIDIA's newest generation Turing GPU architecture has been growing, first with the expansion into GTX territory, then with the release of faster Super models to its GeForce RTX series. As it pertains to the latter, there have been rumors of NVIDIA refreshing its GeForce GTX series with Super models as well. ASUS may have confirmed that to be the case.
Before we get to the rumor, let's have a look at the current Turing stack in the consumer sector (linked to our reviews of each model)...

There are other cards built around Turing as well, such as the Titan RTX and NVIDIA's professional Quadro series, but so far it appears the Super nomenclature is being reserved for NVIDIA's consumer lineup for gamers.
Now, back to the rumor. The folks at Videocardz say they spoke with "sources at ASUS HQ" who are apparently "certain" the GeForce GTX 1660 will get a Super refresh. In addition, ASUS is supposedly readying at least three models of the GeForce GTX 1660 Super, and specifically Dual Evo, Phoenix, and TUF3 variants.
Nothing is official (yet), but if looking at the rumors that are out there, the GeForce GTX 1660 Super will debut with the same GPU as the non-Super version, and faster memory—6GB of GDDR6 memory at 14Gbps, upgraded from 6GB of GDDR5 memory at 8Gbps.
If that is the case, the memory on the GeForce GTX 1660 Super would be even faster than the 6GB of GDDR6 memory at 12Gbps found on the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. It would not have as many CUDA cores, though, at 1,408 (GeForce GTX 1660 Super) versus 1,536 (GeForce GTX 1660 Ti).
There is also chatter of a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti being added to the mix. Specs are unknown, but for reference, here's where it would end up in the GTX pecking order...
- GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Super: 1,536 CUDA cores, 6GB GDDR6 at 12Gbps
- GeForce GTX 1660 Super: 1,408 CUDA cores, 6GB GDDR6 at 14Gbps
- GeForce GTX 1660: 1,408 CUDA cores, 6GB GDDR5 at 8Gbps
- GeForce GTX 1650 Ti: ???
- GeForce GTX 1650: 896 CUDA cores, 4GB GDDR5 at 8Gbps
It's rumored the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti will launch on October 22. If true, the same general time frame can be expected for the GeForce GTX 1660 Super, though we will have to wait and see.
