Nyko Brings Wireless Controller Support To Retro Nintendo NES Classic Edition

It’s an almost certainty that the upcoming Nintendo NES Classic Edition console will be one of the runaway hits of the holiday shopping season. Nintendo first announced the pint-sized gaming console back in July, and it brings with it all the retro-gaming goodness that those of us who grew up as 80s kids loved.

However, if there’s one thing that is somewhat of an annoyance for potential customers, it has to be the NES Classic Edition’s wired controllers. While wired controllers are in keeping with the original NES, in which gamers usually sat on the floor directly in front of the TV, they don’t exactly fit in well with our current wireless gaming lifestyle. That’s where Nyko comes in. The accessory maker has announced the Miniboss for NES Classic Edition, which gives you full wireless freedom with the new mini console.

The Miniboss is a serviceable facsimile of the NES Classic Edition controller, but supports wireless functionality via a dongle that plugs into the complementary port on the console. According to Nyko, you can enjoy cord-free gaming from a distance of up to 30 feet.

The Miniboss for NES Classic Edition will be available on the same date as the NES Classic Edition — November 11th — for $19.99. If you still want the wired experience, but need a bit of additional length, Nyko also sells 6-foot Extend Link cord for $9.99.

The NES Classic Edition plugs into your HDTV using an HDMI cable, includes a single wired controller (an additional controller can be purchased for $9.99), and includes 30 classic games (like fan favorites Mario Bros., Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden and Excitebike). Even its $59.99 price is low enough to make the NES Classic Edition an impulse buy for nostalgic gamers.
