Obsessed HTC To Unveil 10 Flagship Phone On April 12th

While the other major vendors showed off their latest smartphone wares at Mobile World Congress last month, HTC decided to keep a low profile, instead preferring to keep the focus on its Vive VR kit (a move that's hard to disagree with). Little did we know, the company had a surprise in store for the near-future, and that near-future is almost upon us. Mark your calendars: HTC is getting "obsessed" on April 12 with the "power of 10".

The company announced this reveal date on Twitter, and tells us all to tune into HTC.com on April 12 to take it all in. And of course, not only press invited, but all of us/you as well. HTC notes that this reveal will kick off at 8AM New York time, which is 1PM in London and 8PM in Taipei. 8AM is awfully early for a launch event, but that's just how it goes when Taipei is on the other side of the planet.

While this is one of the few times HTC has hinted at the new flagship, it's not the first time we've heard about it. Earlier this month, OnLeaks and EVLeaks teamed-up to reveal the phone, so unless anything has changed or the rumors were inaccurate, it should feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of memory, and a 12 megapixel rear camera. The device size makes the "10" a bit unique, at 5.15-inches, which could appease those who don't want to go all-in at 5.5-inch or larger.

As Brandon pointed out in his post earlier this month, the device looks somewhat like an iPhone 5s, with potentially some wasted space in key areas. The home button is placed lower than we'd expect it to be on the front, for example, leaving a big gap between it and the display. That issue aside, the device does look rather sharp. Given the way HTC is now hyping it, we hope that the company has some more good stuff in store that we're not expecting, because we'd hate for the leakers to have stolen all of its thunder.
