Oculus Quest Standalone Wireless VR Headset Ships In 2019 For $399

Called the Oculus Quest, this VR headset will provide six degrees of freedom and will come with Oculus Touch wireless controllers. Oculus Quest represents the production release of the Project Santa Cruz that was first teased nearly a year ago by Facebook.

The VR system supports inside-out tracking, and makes use of four ultra wide-angle sensors for real-time positioning in a virtual world (meaning that you can walk around instead of standing still). When it comes to optics, the Oculus Quest uses the same system found in the Oculus Go, which means that you get a resolution of 1600x1440 per eye. There are also built-in speakers for those that like a nice, streamlined package.

At this point, there are no indications of what kind of hardware is installed inside this standalone VR headset, but we'd imagine that it's beefier than what's available with the $199 Oculus Go. That standalone VR headset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 3GB of RAM. Perhaps Oculus is going with a Snapdragon 835 or Snapdragon 845 processor this time around paired with 4GB or more of RAM, but we'll have to wait a while longer to get the full rundown on specifications.

With that being said, the $399 price tag gets you the Oculus Quest with 64GB of onboard storage and two Oculus Touch controllers. There will be roughly 50 titles available at launch to leverage the power of the Oculus Touch, including Robo Recall and The Climb (which is a climbing simulator).
