Off-Contract T-Mobile Microsoft Lumia 435 Plummets To Just $50 At Walmart

Penny pinching T-Mobile subscribers can now score Microsoft's entry-level Lumia 435 smartphone for less than $50 ($49.88 to be exact) from Walmart. That's about half the price it was selling for when it first turned up in the U.S. about three months ago for $95, and it's an off-contract price -- no subsidized shenanigans or accompanying long-term contract.

For that price, you might as well add Wally World's 2-year care plan, a $9 add-on that covers your phone from accidental damage and normal wear and tear. What's more, coverage includes a free replacement with no deductible, a relatively rare combination these days for third-party warranties, especially when accidental damage is part of the plan.

Lumia 435

The Lumia 435 is one of Microsoft's lowest priced Windows Phone models, and the specs reflect that. It sports a 4-inch WVGA display (800x480; 233 ppi), Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage + microSD card slot, 0.3-megapixel front camera, 2-megapixel rear camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G HSPA+ cellular, and a 1560mAh removable battery.

On the software side, the Lumia 435 is a Windows Phone 8.1 device. It also comes with Microsoft's Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote), Outlook for email, Skype integration, HERE location services, and up to 30GB of free cloud storage on OneDrive.

Lack of 4G connectivity is disappointing, and if that's a deal killer, you may prefer the Lumia 530 instead. It's priced the same at Walmart and boasts similar specs, but with half the amount of RAM (512MB) and storage (4GB).
