OnePlus 7T Android 10 Flagship Brings Snapdragon 855+ And 90Hz Display At A Killer Price
Somewhere along the line, smartphones went from being pricey at the upper echelon, to downright expensive, requiring users to pay through the nose for the highest end handsets. OnePlus has always been a refreshing change of pace in the top tier smartphone sweepstakes. Its new OnePlus 7T flagship phone carries on that tradition by assembling some of the best components in a package that is comparatively affordable.
By that we mean the new OnePlus 7T starts at $599. Yes, that's not exactly chump change, but you could spend in the neighborhood of twice as much as some other flagship phones, when decked out with the most RAM and storage available.
What's remarkable about the $599 price point is OnePlus did not have to cut many corners to get there. The OnePlus 7T sports a sizable 6.55-inch AMOLED display with 2400x1080 resolution and fast 90Hz refresh rate. That is gaming phone territory (though some gaming phones go all the way to 120Hz, like the ASUS ROG Phone II). It supports HDR visuals, and there is an in-display fingerprint reader embedded inside.
In a departure from the OnePlus 7 Pro, there is a teardrop notch at the top of the new OnePlus 7T, similar in design to the Essential Phone, which debuted the concept of a notch. This houses a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording support, at up to 30 fps. It's also used for the Face Unlock feature.
Around back, the OnePlus 7T sports a triple camera arrangement. This consists of a 48-megapixel main sensor (f/1.6), 12-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.2), and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.2) with a 117-degree field of view. Dual LED flash accompanies the camera setup.
Users can record videos at up 4K at 60 fps. The phone also supports super slow motion recording of up to 240 fps at 1080p and 480 fps at 720p. Sometime down the line, OnePlus will roll out a software update that will up the ante to 960 fps at 720p.
Somewhat surprisingly at this price point, the OnePlus 7T is equipped with Qualcomm's speed Snapdragon 855+ processor and not the regular variant. This is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot, but for users who need more storage, OnePlus will also offer a 256GB model.
In short, there is a lot of phone here for the money. The OnePlus 7T should put the pressure on competitors to come up with ways of justifying exorbitant price tags that climb past $1,000, because they just became even more difficult to justify.
The OnePlus 7T will be available on October 18.
