Onkyo Lets You Use Your Android Handset as a Remote

Tired of fishing for your remote control in the confines of your couch? Take a break from looking for it and fire up your Android handset instead. It's a viable option, provided you own a compatible Onkyo receiver and download/install the company's new Remote App for Android.

"Operating over a wireless local network, the application will allow Onkyo owners to stream music stored on an Android device to an Onkyo network audio system," Onkyo explains. "Music played through an Onkyo system gains far greater power and fidelity."

Onkyo says users will be able browser networked content without needing to fuss with on-screen menus on a connected display. Just fire up the app and use the touch-screen GUI to whiz through the menu options and control a variety of options, like selecting the input source or adjusting the volume.

Onkyo's Remote App for Android will be available in August as a free download and will work with all of Onkyoy's network A/V receivers, including the TX-8050.
