Oppo N1 Preloaded with CyanogenMod Launches in U.S. on December 10
Tired of your smartphone dragging around your wireless carrier's shackles and chains? Unfortunately, Google made the unpopular decision to remove the CyanogenMod installer from its Google Play store on the basis that the app is in violation of its developer terms and "encourages users to void their warranty," but it can't stop handset makers from building devices with the software pre-installed. Meet the Oppo N1.
The Oppo N1 breaks ground as the world's first smartphone to feature CyanogenMod from the get-go, and when you buy the device, you'll be able to choose whether your want to run with the custom ROM or Oppo's "ColorOS" instead.
Speaking of the buying the device, Oppo stated on its Google+ page that the Oppo N1 will be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning December 10 for $499 and €449 respectively. That's certainly a hefty upfront investment, though it's also an unlocked device with some respectable hardware and features.
In addition to running CyanogenMod, the Oppo N1 boasts a 5.9-inch 1080p IPS display (hello, phablet), 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC support, and 3610 mAh battery.
Those who opt for Oppo's Color OS will see Android 4.2 out of the box, while CyanogenMod is expected to serve up either Android 4.3 or 4.4.
