Origin PC Develops Desktop Gaming Chassis With 4-Way Variable Motherboard Mounting
Sometimes a case is a case is a case, but Origin PC is pushing the envelope with a new desktop gaming PC chassis that promises something different. The company’s new Genesis and Millenium desktop case boasts a key feature called Variable Mounting that allows you to mount the motherboard in any of four different orientations.
Basically, you can put your motherboard in a standard orientation, rotate it 90 degrees so that graphics cards are facing the sky, invert it in that 90-degree orientation so that you use the other side panel for access, or invert the standard orientation in such a way that the graphics cards are topmost instead of on the bottom.
Thus, you can set up your rig however it’s most convenient for you with your home environment and with your preferred air- or liquid cooling setup. This video is helpful for visualizing things:
Another clever bit of design allows users to convert the chassis from the mid-tower Millenium to a full-tower Genesis with an optional bottom expansion kit (which is sold separately). The chassis supports up to 4-way NVIDIA SLI (Origin no longer uses AMD cards, you may recall) and has five hot-swappable hard drive bays, a smart fan controller, remote-controlled LED lighting, and optional Kensington locks.
Origin also debuted 4U and 3U workstation chassis, which can be configured as pedestal or rack mount and feature Frostbite liquid cooling with a 360mm radiator, Origin factory overclocking, lifetime support, front- and side panel lock latches, and support for E-ATX motherboard, Intel Xeon processors, hot-swappable hard drives, and up to four full-length graphics cards.
