Palm Pre Plus And Pixi Plus Now On Sale At Verizon Wireless

Palm stole the show at CES 2009 when it introduced the world's first webOS-based smartphone, but a year spent on Sprint's network has left it in the shadows of the iPhone and a slew of Android phones. This week, Palm's giving itself a second chance by shipping the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus onto America's most populated cellphone carrier.

These two phones were originally introduced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, and both are minor updates to the existing Pre and Pixi that are still for sale at Sprint. For those who aren't tied to any particular carrier at the moment, these two definitely feel more attractive. You get more storage and a broader 3G network, and the price points are the same.

Palm Pre Plus is available at $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, and Palm Pixi Plus is $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, each with a new two-year customer agreement. If you jump on it, you can buy one of these and get a Pixi Plus free after mail-in rebate through Valentine's Day. We should also mention that both the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus come travel-ready with a built-in 3G Mobile Hotspot, which is a Wi-Fi hotspot that can be shared among five Wi-Fi-capable devices.

Verizon now has every major phone platform except the iPhone, making it a serious, serious threat to AT&T. If we had to bet, we'd say that VZW may actually get its iPhone wish as early as this week.
