PayPal Discontinues Windows Phone, Amazon Fire, BlackBerry Apps To Conserve Resources
Joanna Lambert, PayPal Vice President of Global Consumer Product and Engineering, stated, “It was a difficult decision to no longer support the PayPal app on these mobile platforms, but we believe it’s the right thing to ensure we are investing our resources in creating the very best experiences for our customers. We remain committed to partnering with mobile device providers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”
PayPal will sunset their current version on June 30 for Windows Phone users. Customers will still be able to access PayPal through the Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers. Outlook.com users can also use the PayPal add-in to send money directly from their inbox.
PayPal will discontinue app use altogether for Amazon Fire and Blackberry users. Customers will still be able to log-on to PayPal through a web browser. Blackberry users can also continue to use the BBM app to send peer-to-peer payments via PayPal.
PayPal Version 6.0 is much cleaner than its predecessors. The app automatically opens to a page with user’s purchases and transactions. If a customer clicks on their profile image, they can easily manage their bank accounts and cards, personal data, PayPal.Me, notifications and login.
Version 6.0 of the PayPal app is currently supported on Android devices running OS 4.03 or greater and Apple devices running iOS 8.1. These apple devices include the iPhone 4S or greater, iPad 2 or greater, and iPod Touch 5 gen or greater. Customers can get the latest versions of the PayPal app at the Apple App Store and Google Play store or go to m.paypal.com to access their PayPal account.
