Ferrari Designer Pininfarina Teases PF0 Electric Hypercar Targeting 250MPH

We can thank Tesla for being the primary motivator behind high-performance EVs. The company has been making smoking fast Model S variants for a while now that are able to embarrass gas-powered cars. Fans of exotic machinery might recognize the name Pininfarina. This is the design house that has been behind some of the most attractive Ferraris ever made.

Pininfarina has decided to launch its own line of cars and one of the first rides in that new line will be an epic hypercar. This won’t use a snarling V12 engine like so many Ferrari's the design firm had a hand in. The Pininfarina hypercar will be an EV and is codenamed PF0. The company says that it will be a "substantially-developed" zero emissions hypercar aiming to put Automobili Pininfarina at the top of the luxury and sports car market.

The goal of the PF0 is to create a car able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in under two seconds and reach a top speed of over 400km/h, or about 250mph. That is the same top speed Tesla claims its new Roadster will offer. Driving range for the PF0 is expected to be over 500km with charging to 80% capacity in as little as 10 minutes.

The very first version of this car was tested in March and it is expected to hit the market in 2020. Pricing is tipped to be about $2 million per unit and there is no word on how many Pininfarina plans to build. Word is that the first look at the car for those with enough money to afford one will come next month at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The official unveil of the car will happen at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
