Philo TV Budget Streaming Service Lands On Apple TV And Amazon Fire TV Devices

If you are looking for another reason to cut the cord with your cable company, Philo has an announcement that you might be interested in. Philo is a streaming TV service that has been around for a while now and the service has bundles of channels that you can subscribe to that are much cheaper than traditional cable TV.

Philo announced that the service has now launched on the Apple TV and on Amazon Fire TV streaming devices. Prior to launching on those two devices, the primary way to watch the service was via a web browser on your computer, Apple mobile devices, or by casting to your Chromecast.

Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV support slots in alongside the support for Roku devices that has been there from the start. Philo gives access to network apps as well that are normally paywalled. That means subscribers at $16 monthly get access to AMC, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel, and History Channel apps.

Philo is backed by some of the small networks out there like AMC and Discovery, making it similar to Hulu, which is owned by Disney, Fox, Comcast, and Time Warner. For those unfamiliar with Philo, it has two levels with the basic package costing $16 monthly and the more premium package priced at $20 monthly.

The basic package has 37 channels including A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, TLC, Nick and lots more. The more expensive package gets the 37 basic channels plus AHC, BET Her, Cooking Channel, Destination America, MTV Live, Nicktoons, and a few others. Subscribers can stream on up to three HD devices at once. In addition, every episode of your favorite shows can be stored automatically for up to 30 days.
