PlayStation 4 Gamers Get Destiny First Look Alpha Access Starting Thursday This Week

Score a victory for Sony, which managed to secure for PlayStation 4 gamers first access to Bungie's much anticipated shooter Destiny during the alpha phase beginning this Thursday, June 13 (the last day of E3), and lasting throughout the weekend. And if that wasn't a pleasant enough surprise for PS4 gamers -- at least for those who didn't already know -- they'll also get first crack at the multiplayer beta beginning July 17.

According to Sony President and Group CEO Andrew House, "Destiny isn't just first on PlayStation, it's better." House is referring to exclusive content for the PS4 release, namely the Strike on Mars mission and co-op map, which will be available at launch.

Destiny

Gamers have been looking forward to Destiny in part because it's the first shooter by Bungie since breaking free from Microsoft. In addition to the early access for PS4 gamers and exclusive content, the game will be included in a special bundle featuring a "glacier white" PS4 with 500GB hard drive and 30 days of the PlayStation Plus service.

"From the ruins of humanity's past, Guardians rise. To defend our home. To explore our lost worlds. To give us hope. Destiny is a next generation first person shooter, with rich cinematic storytelling set in huge worlds to explore," Bungie says. "Create and customize your Guardian. Defeat your enemies. Become Legend in intense cooperative, competitive, and innovative public gameplay modes."

You can pre-order Destiny now to get access to the beta. It will be available September 9, 2014, on PS4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
