Polaris Slingshot: Not Your Little Brother's Tricycle, A Mean Three Wheeled Machine

We aren't exactly living in a Jetsons-esque world where we're all floating about on personal hovercraft, but we're getting there. From UAVs to Tesla electric cars to this, a new 3-wheel roadster that is unlike anything else crisscrossing highways today. The new Polaris Slingshot is a funky new personal vehicle that's designed to act like a theme park ride on the roadway. There's an open air cockpit, side-by-side seating for two, sport-tuned suspension, and a dangerously low amount of ground clearance. And, according to the company, you can "just punch it" and "you are there." In other words, make sure your daredevil of a teenager doesn't find out about this thing.

Internally, there's a 2.4-liter dual-overhead cam engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, a carbon fiber reinforced drive belt, and a dry weight of under 1700 pounds. You'll get 173 horsepower, traction control, 3-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, LED taillights, forged aluminum roll hoops, and 3-point seat belts. On the tech side, there's a 4.3" LCD, back-up camera, Bluetooth, and a 6-speaker audio system.

In a nutshell, you're looking at a 3-wheeled motorcycle that'll run you around $24,000 nicely equipped. Not cheap, but hey -- you only live once, right?
