PowerColor Radeon RX 590 Red Devil Polaris Refresh Graphics Card And Benchmarks Leak
It now seems like a foregone conclusion that AMD and its hardware partners will be rolling out a new Radeon RX 590 model based on a refreshed Polaris GPU. Following rumors that ASUS is prepping a Radeon RX 590 ROG Strix graphics card, a purported press render of a PowerColor Radeon RX 590 Red Devil has found its way to the web.
PowerColor's card looks the same as its Radeon RX 580 Red Devil Golden Sample. There are two cooling fans sitting atop a chunky cooler. It takes up three expansion slots, so buyers who are interested in this card will have to make sure they have the necessary room inside their case. Other than that, we don't have any details on specs.
Past leaks and rumors point to the Radeon RX 590 sporting a 12-nanometer Polaris 30 GPU underneath the hood. To recap, the Radeon RX 480 and Radeon RX 470 are Polaris 10 (14nm FinFET Low Power Plus) parts, the Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 570 are based on Polaris 20 (14LPP+), which AMD optimized to achieve higher clockpeeds.
What does that mean for performance? Interestingly enough, a Radeon RX 590 has made an appearance in Final Fantasy XV's benchmark database. We can't say for sure if it's a legitimate entry, but assuming it is, the card offers a nice performance bump over the Radeon RX 580 and trades blows with NVIDIA's popular GeForce GTX 1060. For example, at 2560x1440 with the settings on Lite, here's how things look:

- GeForce GTX 1060 6GB: 5,993
- Radeon RX 580: 5,793
- Radeon RX 480: 5,681
And here's a breakdown of scores when cranking the settings to High at the same resolution:
- GeForce GTX 1060: 3,595
- Radeon RX 590: 3,570
- Radeon RX 580: 3,159
- Radeon RX 480: 3,091
At 4K, the Radeon RX 590 outpaces the GeForce GTX 1060 at all three visual quality settings (Lite, Standard, and High). Playing at 4K on a mid-range card isn't a realistic expectation though, at least not for games in general. And unfortunately, there are no Radeon RX 590 benchmarks figures for the 1920x1080 category.
In any event, the Radeon RX 590 looks like an interesting addition so far, if the leaked data holds true. We should find out soon enough—typically when press renders emerge, an official release is not far behind.
