PowerColor's Custom Radeon RX Vega 64 Red Devil Is Factory Overclocked And Ready For Preorder
Pictures of PowerColor's Radeon RX Vega 64 Red Devil graphics card leaked to the web at the tail end of last week, and if you were eager with anticipation for the card's release, we have good news. It is now available to pre-order. The only catch is that US vendors don't appear to be offering the Red Devil variant just yet, but at OverclockersUK, it is up for grabs to anyone who has £590 to spend. At the current exchange rate, that works out to around $781 in US currency.
The Radeon RX Vega 64 Red Devil is a custom cooled card with a factory overclock. PowerColor goosed the GPU to 1,417MHz out of the box, with a 1,607MHz boost clock to boot. Both are faster than AMD's reference clocks for an air cooled Radeon RX Vega 64, which the company set at 1,247MHz base and 1,546MHz boost. For liquid cooled cards, AMD's reference blueprint calls for a 1,406MHz base and a 1,677MHz boost.
Of course, clockspeeds only tell part of the story. Equally important is the cooling solution, to allow for cards to run at their boost clock settings for longer periods of time.
"The better cooling the GPU receives, the longer it can maintain its boost clocks. The cooling of the Powercolor Radeon RX Vega 64 Devil 8G is provided by a tri-fan cooler design. The fan is located in the rear of the card and draws air out of the case, which is then blown over the PCB and out," PowerColor explains. "The advantage of this style of cooling is that warm air is exhausted directly out of the case."
The other advantage is the aesthetic appeal. PowerColor's new card is a limited edition model with a premium metal look, thanks to the aluminum shroud (as opposed to plastic).
For connecting the card to a monitor, there are three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs and a single HDMI output. That equates to one more DisplayPort and one less HDMI port than Radeon RX Vega 64 cards that stick with AMD's reference design. It draws power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power supply connectors.
