‘Prey’ Reboot Blasts Onto PC, Xbox One And PS4 Today

Prey

It is finally time to fight the invasion. Again. Fans of the original Prey released in 2006 were teased with a sequel for several years, but as the IP rights changed hands and development shifted from one studio to another, the long-awaited followup seemed increasingly unlikely. It was eventually cancelled in 2014. Game over, right? Not so fast. Bethesda tasked Arkane Studios (which it acquired in 2010) with developing a reboot, and today is the day it releases.

Now available on Steam, Arkane Studio's reimagining of Prey is a first person shooter with some role playing elements. The player assumes the role of Morgan Yu, a human character aboard a space station who is not only trying to survive an alien invasion, but also wipe out the hostile creatures known as the Typhon.
"In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station -- your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities. The fate of the Talos I and everyone aboard is in your hands." the game's description reads.

You'll need a relatively modern PC to run Prey, though nothing overly intense. Here is a look at the minimum requirements:
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 or AMD FX-8320
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 660 2GB or AMd Radeon 7850 2GB
  • Storage: 20GB free space
And here is a look at what Bethesda recommends running Prey on:
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K or AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 970 4GB or AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
  • Storage: 20GB free space
The early response to Prey has been encouraging. It has an overall "Very Positive" rating out of more than 400 reviews on Steam, and an 8.0 user score on Metacritic for the PC version. Prey is also available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 where the user ratings on Metacritic are slightly lower at 7.5 and 7.6, respectively.
