Promate Lumitab, An Android Jelly Bean Slate with Built-In Projector Debuts
Well, here's an idea I hadn't considered before. Because most tablets don't offer the ability to plug in an external display, sharing what's on your screen with others usually involves passing the tablet around. Obviously, this isn't too ideal for something like an office meeting, where slides are being shown. But what if all of your documents are on the tablet? Must you first copy them elsewhere? Not with Promate's lumiTab you don't.
As the title of this post gives away, lumiTab's biggest selling feature is its built-in projector, capable of outputting an image up to 100" - though at a resolution of 854x480, that would be few pixels per inch. For things like movies (an example the company actually gives), you'd definitely want to move the tablet closer to the wall.
The DLP projector lights up through LEDs, and has a lifespan of about 20,000 hours. With a luminance rating of just 35, it's certainly not going to be the brightest projector on the block, but I doubt anyone would expect anything more from a tablet.
Projector aside, the lumiTab comes equipped with Android "Jelly Bean" 4.2, a TI OMAP4460 dual-core ARM Cortex A9 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB memory built-in (a microSD slot is available for expansion), Bluetooth 4.0, an HDMI port, a USB port, built-in mic, 2 megapixel camera at the front and back and other typical tablet niceties.
The lumiTab is hardly a "fast" tablet, but it's certainly an interesting one. There seems to be no mention of a launch date or price anywhere, so whether or not this winds up being little more than a concept, we're have to wait and see.
