PUBG Adding Deathmatch Style 'War Mode' To Custom Games

When PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds first arrived last year, the game knew what it wanted to be from the get-go, and fans latched on fast. As of the time of writing, the game has thus far seen a peak of 2.26 million players on Steam today, dwarfing the #2 entry, Dota 2, with its 700K peak. Naturally, player interest is obviously going to wane over time if things are not shaken up too much, so PUBG's developers have been hard at work giving players more ways to play.

PUBG War

Last month, the game's developer introduced Events, where on regular occasion, special modes will become available that will let players enjoy fresher experiences. One neat example happened last month: 8-person squads with the assault rifle drop rate doubled.

Soon, another mode that will run through Events, and now introduced in a beta, is going to shake things up even more. "War Mode" is a deathmatch-like mode that doesn't end your game after you die. Instead, you simply keep respawning, with an SMG, and then continue to lay waste to those you come across. As soon as you begin the game, you will be in a safe zone, and when you die, you will be placed back in at a certain interval.

The ultimate goal with War Mode is to obtain 80 points as a 4-person squad. You earn 1 point for being down, but not out, and another for reviving a teammate. Kills are where the points are really racked up, with 3 earned per. As with the regular PUBG modes, you'll want to be very careful now about accidentally murdering one of your teammates, and that's doubly true here, since it will instantly remove 5 points from your total - yes, even downing someone, without killing them.

This mode has the potential to be a ton of fun, and fortunately, you don't need to wait to give it a go - at least if you're on the PC version. You can hit-up the Custom Games tab at the top, and then filter through the available War playlists and put your skill to a perhaps even faster-paced test.
