PUBG Devs To Ban 100,000 Cheaters In A Glorious Single Wave, Blue Zone Tweaks Inbound

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds took the gaming industry by storm with its addicting battle royal game play, attracting gamers in droves. Unfortunately, there have been some annoying issues, both on the performance side (bugs have been a constant problem) and in terms of cheaters ruining the fun for everyone else. The latter is bound to happen when a game is as popular as PUBG. However, the developer isn't ignoring the issue—PUBG Corp is bringing the ban hammer down hard on over 100,000 players.

"We recently discovered a new pattern of cheats in action. This week, we performed a thorough gameplay data review of 10 million players and completed analysis of tens of millions of data logs. Through this exercise, we were able to identify over 100,000 instances of the new pattern related to use of cheat and now we have confirmed that it was clearly an attempt of compromising our game. These players will be permanently banned in a single wave," PUBG Corp said in a forum post.

The developer said this latest ban is an example of more measures it plans to take, in addition to the basic detection mechanisms that are already in place. Part of the extra effort entails combing through data logs, and PUBG Corp said it is committed to doing so, even if it means manually sifting through hundreds of billions of data logs. We don't envy that task, not one little bit, but are appreciative that PUBG Corp is taking things seriously.

On top of all that, PUBG Corp is kicking around a new solution to detect and ban even more cheaters, though the developer did not get into specifics. It's also working with local authorities in some countries to take legal action against both developers and distributors of cheats.

"We are determined to take strong measures against them going forward," PUBG Corp said.

Dealing with cheaters is not the only thing the developer has been up to. PUBG Corp is working to solve other issues, and is also making some more blue zone balance adjustments. They include:
  • Slightly decreased the waiting time of the blue zones in mid-to-late phase of a match.
  • Slightly decreased the shrinking speed of the blue zones in mid-to-late phase (In this phase, blue zones will now move at a slower speed and the travel time of blue zones has slightly increased due to this change).
  • Slightly increased the damage per second of the last blue zone.
PUBG Corp will be testing the blue zone changes for several days, and then make further refinements based on player feedback and play data.
