PUBG Frags Another Concurrent User Record On Steam

Playerunknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) has turned out to be a massive hit for the developers and it is one of the most popular games in the world right now. Currently, the game is only offered on Steam for PC gamers, but a console version is in the works. PUBG recently passed 1.5 million concurrent users on Steam, which put it at over one hundred thousand more concurrent players that Valve's own Dota 2 free-to-play game has been able to rack up.

Dota 2 hit its concurrent player record of 1,291,320 in March of 2016 and hasn't surpassed that record since them. In the history of Steam, only Dota 2 and PUBG have passed the million concurrent player mark. PUBG's latest record is a huge gain compared to it's record for concurrent players that it racked up in August when it had over 877,000 gamers playing at the same time. That was the first time that it had passed Dota 2 for concurrent players.

Back in August, PUBG also had a big update that brought first-person servers to the mix instead of the standard third-person view the game is known for. A first-person view makes the game more difficult according to many players. More recently the devs at Bluehole, the team behind PUBG, have been unhappy with Epic Games for adding a Battle Royale mode to Fortnite going so far a to reference PUBG as inspiration.

"We've had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG’s development as they are the creators of Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), the engine we licensed for the game," Bluehole VP and executive producer Chang Han Kim stated in a press release. "After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known."

Playerunknown himself, Brendan Green recently stated that he would "love" to add a single-player campaign to PUBG. "I would love to add a single-player campaign to the game," Green said. "I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story, but unfortunately we just don't have the time or the resources for this at the moment!"
