PUBG Lite Is The Free-to-Play Counter Assault On Fortnite's Gaming Dominance

For a long while, PUBG or PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was the top game out there, but that success was short-lived. When Epic Games launched Fortnite, that game quickly consumed the souls of gamers and cost PUBG half its player base in short order. PUBG is normally a paid game, and players look forward to free weekends to enjoy the fun without needing to shell out cash. Now it looks like a free version of PUBG will soon be arriving for gamers.

PUBG Event Pass

An official announcement has turned up on the website for the PUBG Lite beta test in Thailand. The website doesn't give a specific date that the PUBG Lite game will go live; it only says "soon." As for what PUBG Lite is, the website says that was designed to allow players with low-end PCs to enjoy the game.

Players using this version of the game will be able to participate in battles of up to 100 players and fight to be the last player standing. Not only will the game support budget gaming rigs, but it is also free-to-play whereas the original Steam game was a paid product. The website does run down the minimum and recommended specs for the game, and you can actually play with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Minimum specifications:

  • OS: Windows 7, 8, or 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Core i3 2.4GHz
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • HDD: 4GB

Recommended specificaitons:

  • OS: Windows 7, 8, or 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Core i5 2.8GHz
  • RAM: 8GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870
  • HDD: 4GB

With such low specifications required, the question of just how bad the game may look is valid. The website for the Lite version notes that even if the graphics don't look great, you will still have the excitement of playing, and no matter what the game looks like, it's fun. Once PUBG Lite is live, it will certainly find its way onto work and school PCs as a productivity killer.
