PUBG Mobile Launches In U.S. On iOS And Android To Much Fraggin' Fanfare

Last Friday mobile gamers got a surprise when PUBG Mobile launched in Canada. At the time the game launched in The Great White North, the only way for U.S. gamers to partake in the fun was to change their region and download the game. PUBG Mobile has now officially landed in the U.S. and the game is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

The game is said to be an accurate and faithful reproduction of gameplay currently available on PC and console systems, and promises high-quality graphics thanks to Unreal Engine 4 along with HD audio. Perhaps the best news about PUBG Mobile is that the game is free, whereas it costs money to play on PC or console systems. If you have never played PUBG, it is a battle royale-style game with up to 100 players parachuting onto an island that measures 8x8 km.

Players can team up with friends and chat in real time, but like Highlander -- there can be only one. In the end, it's the last person standing who wins the match. Players drop onto the island with no weapons to use, and must find and scavenge their weapons as the play area continually shrinks. Weapons range from firearms to melee weapons and throwable weapons, all of which offer realistic ballistics and travel trajectories.

PUBG Mobile offers different vehicles to use to fight other players like cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats. PUBG Corp has integrated what it calls "powerful anti-cheat mechanisms" to fight the rampant cheating in the game. This is one of the biggest downsides to the game on other platforms.

The mobile game requires a persistent internet connection and needs an Android device with at least 2GB of RAM. Over 500 Android devices are supported and you need at least Android 5.1.1 or higher. The iOS version requires iOS 9.0 or higher and is compatible with the iPhone 5s and newer.
