QNAP Brings 8-Bay TS-809 Pro NAS To Enterprises

QNAP just revealed its Atom-powered TS-439 Pro Turbo NAS to us last week, and already the company's hitting back with yet another new one in the TS Series. The TS-809 Pro comes stocked with a potent Core 2 Duo processor and eight bays to hold upwards of 16TB of storage. Hailed as an enterprise-grade device, this high performance and high volume NAS is certainly not for the faint of heart.

As for specifications, it houses a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDRII memory, eight SATA drive bays and advanced RAID features including support for RAID 0/1/5/6/5+spare, Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration. Furthermore, the device touts iSCSI with Thin Provisioning, AES 256-bit volume-based encryption, automatic policy-based IP blocking along with instant SMS and email alert. In the QNAP laboratories, this unit was able to reach over 126MB/sec read rates and 111MB/sec write rates, and it's noted that it will function just fine as a mass data storage center, especially for SOHO and home users, to store and share millions of multimedia files.

Everything you'd expect in a powerful, fully-featured NAS is here: Surveillance Station, which supports real-time monitoring and video playback from up to 4 IP-based cameras, along with support for an FTP server, DDNS, Web server (with built-in phpMyAdmin, Joomla, MySQL, SQLite, editable php.ini, MySQL server, etc.) and the ability to act as a printer server (max 3 sets). Of course, you'll have no qualms accessing it from Mac, Linux or Windows-based machines, and the TS-809 Pro supports the all-in-one XDove mail server via QPKG software expansion. There's no mention of a price or release date, but given that it's targeting business first and foremost, we doubt it will come cheap.
