Quake Champions was announced at Bethesda’s E3 2016 showcase. Tim Willits, Studio Director of id Software stated, “20 years ago, Quake set new standards for multiplayer competition and pushed the boundaries for graphics and gameplay. It’s important to all of us at id Software that Quake Champions remains true to the Quake legacy, and delivers the speed and gameplay our longtime fans expect, while also pressing forward by introducing new gameplay opportunities with new Champions and abilities.”

The game will feature a dozen different champions. These include old favorites like Ranger and Visors, and newcomers like Nyx and Scalebearer. Players will be able to choose from an arsenal of unique weapons and there is no limit on how many a player can hoard. Willits remarked, “No loadouts, no limit to the amount of guns you can carry...Time the weapon pickups, or kill your opponents. That’s how you get weapons in a Quake game.”

The trailer promises pure speed, pure skill, and pure FPS. Since the game is only available on PC, Bethesda has been able to experiment more with the id Tech 6 engine. The game will run on 120 hertz with unlocked frame rates. Some computers will be able to reach the 60 frames per second benchmark. Players hopefully will be able to reap the promised pure speed, skill, and FPS.
