For connected cars, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 820 Automotive Family with Integrated LTE Modem and Machine Intelligence. Qualcomm is taking a modular approach with the Snapdragon 820A, thereby enabling a vehicle’s infotainment system to be upgradeable through hardware and software updates. Qualcomm’s Zeroth machine intelligence platform is present in this family. The Zeroth initiative will give automakers the ability to create deep learning-based solutions using neural networks for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and in-vehicle infotainment scenarios. A Zeroth-powered development kit will be available. Included in the Snapdragon 820A family is the Snapdragon 820Am which offers an integrated X12 LTE modem that is capable of 600 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload speeds. Automotive samples of the 820A family are expected to be available in the first quarter of this year.
