Qualcomm Snapdragon 735 Rumored To Bring 5G To Mid-Range Android Phones

Now we’re learning of an even more high-performance member of the family: the alleged Snapdragon 735. According to a leaked Qualcomm slide, the Snapdragon 735 is based on the 7nm process node, just like the current flagship Snapdragon 855. The SoC will reportedly have a rather quirky 1 + 1 + 6 CPU setup with a single 2.9GHz Kryo 4xx core, a single 2.4GHz Kryo core quad 1.8GHz Kryo 4xx cores.

The Kryo CPU is said to be backed by an Adreno 620 GPU, which should provide even more performance than what’s possible with the Adreno 618 in the Snapdragon 730G. Up to a 3360x1440 display is supported (up from 2520x1080 on the Snapdragon 730/730G) and it comes with the same Spectra 350 ISP. The ISP is capable of supporting 4K video capture at 60 fps and there is a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) onboard.

What’s really interesting, however, is that according to this slide, the Snapdragon 735 will have an integrated 5G modem. Qualcomm has already made it known that it is was working on an SoC with an integrated 5G modem (instead of requiring a separate Snapdragon X50 or Snapdragon X55), but we assumed that it would be a flagship part given that 5G is still a relatively exotic and pricey feature. But it looks like Qualcomm is showing a willingness to push 5G to mainstream as soon as possible with the Snapdragon 735.

If this information is accurate, don’t expect to see the Snapdragon 735 anytime this year – it will likely debut sometime in 2020.
