RAGE 2 PC Recommended System Specs Revealed, Can Your Gaming Rig Handle It?

Rage 2
After eight years of waiting, Rage is finally getting a sequel. Developed by Avalanche Studios in partnership with id Software, and published by Bethesda Softworks, Rage 2 will bring insanity-fueled apocalyptic gameplay to the forefront, and you will need a relatively meaty PC to play the game as recommended, though nothing too crazy.

Bethesda announced the minimum and recommended specs for playing Rage 2 on PC. The good news is, you don't need a crazy-powerful build to get your foot in the door. Here's a look at the requirements.
Minimum
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Win7, 8.1, or 10 (64-Bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB or AMD R9 280 3GB
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
The recommended specs kick things up a notch, with the publisher suggesting at least a Pascal- or Vega-era GPU. Have a look.

From the trailers that have been released so far, gameplay looks to be delightfully nuts, sort of akin to the Mad Max: Fury Road movie, in terms of action. It is set well over 100 years in the future after most of humanity has been obliterated by an asteroid.

"In Rage 2, you’ll dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. You can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything. The game brings together two studio powerhouses—Avalanche Studios, masters of open world mayhem and id Software, gods of the first-person shooter—to deliver a carnival of carnage," Bethesda explains.

IIt looks to be a lot of fun if you have a capable PC. Or a Dreamcast. Say what now? Bethesda is giving away a themed 'Dreamcast' on Twitter that can play Rage 2. No, really.
How can a Dreamcast console play Rage 2, when the hardware inside is ancient? The answer is, by gutting it and putting actual modern PC components inside, which is what Bethesda has done. It's not clear what the exact hardware makeup is, only that it is a custom PC in themed Dreamcast digs, valued at $590.

That tells us it is not a super powerful setup, but it sure is neat. It also has an HDMI output for connecting to a monitor or TV.

To enter, you need to follow the official Rage 2 account on Twitter (@RAGEgame) and retweet the above. As for the game itself, it is available to preorder on Steam for $59.99, or $79.99 for the Deluxe Edition, which comes with some extra in-game goodies. It releases on May 14.
