We've been hearing quite a bit about the Razer Phone 2 over the past few months, and today, the company finally announced its second-generation gaming phone. The Razer Phone 2 looks very similar to its predecessor, but includes key refinements internally and externally -- both for the better.

The big internal change is the addition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor in place of the old Snapdragon 835. Razer says that new mobile chip offers a 30 percent uplift in performance compared to its predecessor, which combined with the Adreno 630 GPU should mean even smoother gameplay in fan favorites like Fortnite and PUBG.  Keeping everything cool is Razer's vapor chamber cooling system which helps better dissipate heat under load.

There's still 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the battery is still rather generously sized at 4,000 mAh. A new dual-camera setup is included on the back of the phone, which has now been moved from the upper left-hand corner to the centerline of the phone. There's a 12MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization and another 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom; both use Sony IMX sensors. Selfies are handled by an 8MP front-facing camera.

The Razer Phone 2 retains a 5.7-inch UltraMotion IGZO QHD display with a gamer-friendly 120Hz refresh rate (the highest in its class), but the display is now 50 percent brighter than before.

On the outside, the big change comes on the back, where the aluminum unibody has been jettisoned in favor of glass. This has allowed Razer to incorporate Qi wireless charging support, which seems to be a must-have feature these days. In addition, Razer has also added IP67 certification to the device for dust/water resistance. The Razer triple-headed snake logo on the back is now lit up by Razer Chroma RGB lighting effects and can provide app notifications. 16.8 million colors are on command, so customizations of the RGB experience are up to you (via settings).

Razer says that preorders for the Razer Phone 2 are open today, and the phone is priced at $799.
