Razer Reaches for Audio Supremacy, Launches Kraken Forged Edition Headphones for $300

Hello Razer, have we met before? You may ask yourself the same question after spying the peripheral maker's new Kraken Forged Edition headphones. Razer's been known to put out some solid gaming accessories, no doubt about that, but the Kraken Forged Edition aims higher than Razer has perhaps ever aimed. Not only is this a premium (and premium priced) headset, Razer's touting it as the "best headphones" you can buy, point blank.

"These are the best headphones on the market for both music and gaming, period," says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. "We’ve made some incredible audio products in our time, and I’m proud to say that we have taken another huge step forward in terms of audio quality in a pair of headphones with phenomenal fit and finish."

Razer Kraken Forged Edition

Each Kraken Forged Edition is hand assembled with ear cups that are machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and topped off with a matte texture. The idea is to craft a headset that looks as good as it sounds, and towards the latter end, these puppies feature 40mm bass-heavy neodymium drivers. Some specs:

  • Frequency Response: 20 – 20,000 Hz
  • Impedance: 32 Ω at 1 kHz
  • Sensitivity @ 1 kHz: 100 dB ± 3 dB
  • Input Power: 30 mW
  • Approximate Weight: 390g

With regards to comfort, the ear cups are lined with plush leatherette cushions, there's a fully adjustable headband, and the headset is relatively lightweight, all of which should benefit users during extended use.

Razer says the Kraken Forged Edition will be available in December for $300. You can place your pre-order now.
