Red Dead Redemption 2 Likely Coming To The PC, Analyst Cites Brilliant ‘Trump-Like’ Marketing

For whatever reason, Rockstar Games never seems to prioritize the PC. We see it with every Grand Theft Auto release—first it releases to consoles, then sometime way later it finally moseys on over to PC where a still eager audience awaits. But with Red Dead Redemption 2, a hotly anticipated sequel Rockstar recently announced, the publisher only confirmed support for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Does that mean there will never be a PC port? Not so fast.

Though Rockstar didn't say anything about a PC version arriving at a later did, it also didn't specifically say there wouldn't be a PC port. That is an important distinction and if you ask Wedbush Security analyst Michael Pachter for his thoughts on the matter, he'll tell you that Rockstar is likely to release Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC at some point.


"I remember the announcement for GTA5 was Xbox 360 and PS3 only, when it was first announced in November 2011, I think. And then they waited until June of 2014, so literally two and a half years after the first announcement, and announced that it would be on Xbox One and PS4. And then—I forget the month, but I think it was several months later, they announced it for PC, which came out in 2015," Pachter told Gaming Bolt.

The way Pachter sees it, Rockstar has a "history of bleeding out information about their games," a strategy he says works for the publisher as it keeps fans interested. He also likened Rockstar's strategy to that of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.


"They are brilliant marketers, and they’re right. Here we are, you know talking about Red Dead Redemption 2, which is coming out in a year, and not talking about all the games that are coming out this week. So, they’re smart. They’ve diverted the conversation to them. That’s almost Trump-like- stay in front of the news cycle, and it works," Pachter added.

It will be a long time before we know if Pacther is right in his prediction, perhaps even several years. We tend to agreee that a PC version is inevitable. Even though the original Red Dead Redemption game was never released to PC, that was a long time ago. Rockstar's GTA games continue to come out on PC (eventually, anyway), and with the Red Dead Redemption 2's focus on online play, it's all the more reason to expect a PC port.
