Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Requirements Revealed, Is Your Rig Up To Snuff?
recently confirmed its wildly popular Red Dead Redemption 2
game would soon be galloping over to PC. Now here in the homestretch leading up to the launch, the developer revealed what kind of specs will be necessary to play RDR2 on PC. They are not too demanding, though if you're rocking a paltry solid state drive, you may need to get something more capacious.
That's because RDR2 requires 150GB of disk space. Easy cheesy if you own a bulky hard drive and have not already filled it up with photos, videos, and everything else. But if you're skating by with, say, a 256GB SSD, you might not have enough free space to install the game. Fortunately, pricing on SSDs have come down dramatically over the past year.
Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Requirements
Rockstar Games provided two sets of specs, one for the minimum requirements and another for the recommended hardware.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-6300
- Memory: 8GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB
- HDD: 150GB
- Sound Card: DirectX compatible
- OS: Windows 7 - Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
The specifications on both fronts are reasonable for a modern game, though the recommended ones are certainly representative of a respectable configuration, particularly with regards to the CPU and GPU.
Rockstar Games is using the port as an opportunity to flesh out the graphics options and make the game more visually appealing. Here are the things that will be included in the PC release...
- Increased draw distance
- Higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion
- Improved snow trails
- Improved reflections and higher resolution shadows
- Tessellated tree textures
- Improved grass and fur textures
- HDR support
- Unlocked resolution (4K and higher)
- Ultrawide aspect ratio and multi-monitor support
- Unlocked framerate
It remains to be seen how much better RDR2 looks on a reasonably equipped or high-end PC compared to a console, but the list above is promising. After all, RDR2 looks pretty good already on Xbox One
and PlayStation 4
RDR2 heads to PC on November 5. It will be available to preorder later today. Those who prerorder on the Rockstar Games Launcher by October 22 will be eligible to pick two free bonus games out of a list that includes Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Bully: Scholarship Edition, LA Noire: The Complete Edition, and Max Payne 3: The Complete Edition.
