HBO Reportedly Coming To Dish Network's Sling TV 'Cordcutter' Streaming Service

Following its official public launch in early February, Dish Network’s Sling TV streaming service is off to fast start. Sling TV, which costs $20 per month, captured 100,000 subscribers during its first month of availability and the momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

Fresh news today from The Wall Street Journal (no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke) suggests that the adoption of Sling TV may skyrocket again thanks to the inclusion of HBO. According to the WSJ, Time Warner Cable — the parent company of HBO — and Dish Network have come to an agreement which would allow Sling TV subscribers to enjoy such content as Game of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, and Veep (as well as back catalogs of HBO content).

It would be nearly impossible for HBO to be included in the base $20 package, and we have the feeling that even the $5 that Sling TV charges for each of its add-on packages wouldn’t be enough to cover adding the channel. Keep in mind that the standalone HBO Now package, which is launching on Apple TV this month, costs $15 a month.

Sling TV can be accessed from a Mac or PC, Android or iOS device, and streaming players from Amazon and Roku. But do keep in mind that the Sling TV has limited DVR functionality (only a few channels support the feature currently) and the service is limited to one stream at a time (which is a big bummer for households with differing taste in movies and TV shows).
