Retail 3D Printing has Arrived, at MakerBot Store in NYC

If you’re strolling down Mulberry Street in New York, there’s a new attraction to behold: a retail store featuring 3D printers, filament for printing 3D models, and treasures printed by MakerBot machines.

The MakerBot store is the brainchild of MakerBot founder Bre Pettis, who said, “I have dreamed of opening this store ever since we started MakerBot. Technology like our Desktop 3D Printers has to be seen to be believed. The MakerBot Store is a utopia for creative explorers, and it’s full of MakerBot-made things that make perfect gifts.”

The store will include MakerBot’s two new 3D printer models, the prosumer-level MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop Printer and MakerBot Replicator 2x Desktop Printer (which cost $2,199 and $2,799, respectively), as well as fun attractions such as a MakerBot gumball machine with 3D-printed goodies inside, a marble run (built from, what else, components printed on MakerBot’s machines), and various presentations put on by the MakerBot 3D design staff.

MakerBot has also released smarter and more efficient software for the new 3D printers.
