Rockstar Confirms Red Dead Redemption 2, Targets Fall 2017 Release

After publishing two teasers over the weekend that had obvious nods to a sequel in the Red Dead franchise, Rockstar Games today confirmed the development of Red Dead Redemption 2.

According to the developer, Red Dead Redemption 2 is on target for a Fall 2017 release, but given its past track record, we should probably tack on at least a few months onto the launch window just to be on the safe side. And if the game’s official announcement isn’t enough for you, you’ll be happy to know that a trailer for the Western-themed game will bow this Thursday, October 20th at 11AM EST.

Rockstar describers the game:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

We should also point out that the seven figures in the latest teaser could be a reference to the classic western The Magnificent Seven. If you’re going to look to a classic for inspiration with gameplay, you can’t get much better than the original (the jury is still out on the recently released remake).

It should be noted that Rockstar so far has confirmed support for both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. There’s no word on whether PCs will be supported, but if Grand Theft Auto V is any indicator, we’ll likely see a port sometime after the launch on consoles.

With that being said, we’re incredibly excited to see Rockstar get back in the saddle with the Red Dead franchise and we’ll be eagerly awaiting Thursday’s trailer reveal to see what in store for anxious gunslingers.
