Alleged 2nd Gen Threadripper 2990X 32-Core Beast CPU Shows Up For Preorder Online
The processor is now listed for pre-order via German retailer Cyberport. At the moment, we're going to take this pre-order listing with a grain of salt, but it does show the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X priced at 1,509 Euros, which converts to roughly $1,755. Of course, you can never trust a straight currency conversion to get U.S. pricing, but it at least gives us a ballpark figure.
For comparison the current 16-core Ryzen Threadripper 1950X has an MSRP of $999, but can be had for $749 via Amazon (it recently hit a low of $719). On the other hand, the 18-core Intel Core i9-7980XE (18 cores, 36 threads) has an MSRP and street price of $1,999 on Amazon.
The Ryzen Threadripper 2990X is a beastly processor with a TDP of 250 watts. According to leaked benchmarks, the processor is expected to have a base clock of 3GHz, an all-core max clock of 3.4GHz and a Precision Boost clock of 4GHz. Also on tap for this HEDT monster is 3MB L1 cache, 16MB of L2 cache and 64MB of L3 cache.
It is rumored that the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X will be joined by two other 12nm Pinnacle Ridge-based siblings: the 16-core (32-thread) 2950X and the 24-core (48-thread) 2970X.
On the Intel side of things, the company is scheduled to launch a 28-core Core-X processor later this year; just don’t expect it to be clocked at 5GHz out-of-the-box.
