Samsung App Store Passes 100 Million Downloads

Samsung has reason to celebrate today. The company announced that its app store, called Samsung Apps, has logged more than 100 million downloads. What's even more impressive is that it took Samsung less than a year to reach the 100 million milestone, with Samsung Apps launching in June 2010.

Samsung Apps is filled with some 13,000 apps and is available in over 120 countries. France, Germany, and Spain account for about 40 percent of the total downloads, with Magic Torch, Need for Speed Shift, Asphalt 5, London Traffic, and Ndrive France ranking as the most downloaded apps, Samsung says.

"We are anticipating that Samsung Apps will show a rapid growth in 2011," Samsung said in a statement.

So how does Samsung Apps compare to Apple's App Store? The latter has logged over 10 billion downloads since opening in July 2008 and includes 350,000 iPhone apps and 65,000 iPad apps. Advantage Apple, though 100 million downloads in less than a year is nothing to sneeze at.
