Samsung Calls BS On SquareTrade's Galaxy S6 Edge Bending Test, Posts Video Response
As someone who doesn’t put my smartphone in my back pocket (it always stays in my right, front pants pocket), I don’t really pay much attention to such tests, and consider them mere fodder for fanboy wars. Samsung, on the other hand, is downright irate at the tests and has posted both a written and video response to SquareTrade’s testing.
For starters, Samsung says that SquareTrade’s testing is very specific and goes well beyond the pressure that a normal human being would exert on a smartphone left in a back pants pocket. “Our internal test results indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are not bendable even under 79 lbf (32 kgf), which is equivalent to putting pressure to snap a bundle of five pencils at once,” replied Samsung.
Samsung next called out SquareTrade’s decision to only test bending resistance using the front side of the device as the main pressure point. “Some smartphones have different durability in each the front and back sides respectively,” Samsung added. “SquareTrade has only tested the front side, which may mislead consumers about the entire durability of smartphones.”
Needless to say, Samsung is none too pleased with SquareTrade right now and is asking for a recount when it comes to the test results. To see Samsung’s own methodology for testing the strength of its smartphones, check out the video below:
