Samsung Confirms Galaxy Note 8 Flagship Smartphone For 2H 2017 Launch

Against this backdrop, the company will strive to maintain profitability through robust sales of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the launch of a new flagship smartphone in the second half.

The comments backup statements made by Samsung mobile chief D.J. Koh in late January, when he stated, “I will bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8.” Given how much technology Samsung packed into the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, we’re eager to see what the company has in store for the follow-up to the explosive Galaxy Note 7.

It’s a given that the Galaxy Note 8 will include an S-Pen stylus like its predecessors, and we could imagine the flagship at least matching the 6.2-inch edge-to-edge display of the Galaxy S8+. Looking beyond that, we wouldn’t mind see Samsung’s implementation of a through-the-display fingerprint reader, which was allegedly dropped from the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ due to time constrains (that explains the haphazard placement of the fingerprint reader on the back of those smartphones). It’s likely that Samsung has had time to work out the kinks with the Synaptics Natural ID FS9100 optical fingerprint sensor to coincide with a 2H 2017 launch for the Galaxy Note 8.

This is just speculation on our part, but it’s likely that we will see Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB to 6GB of internal storage and 64GB to 128GB of internal storage with microSD expansion capabilities.

Whatever the case, Samsung will have to prove that it can reinvigorate the Galaxy Note brand after all the fires, bad publicity, airline bans, and costly recalls that doomed the Galaxy Note 7. Luckily for Samsung, it appears that consumers have short memories as preorder sales for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ outpaced their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge by 30 percent.
