Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC Brings Heavy Firepower For Galaxy S9 Showdown with iPhone X
Today, however, Samsung is spilling the beans on its Exynos 9810 processor that will find its way into the international versions of the smartphones. Samsung says that its new 8-core SoC has four third-generation custom high-performance cores operating at a heady 2.9GHz. For less demanding tasks, there are four efficiency cores onboard. According to the chip giant, single-core performance has been doubled, while multi-core performance has seen a 40 percent uplift versus its predecessor.
More interestingly, it looks as though Samsung has infused the Exynos 9810 with the AI processing power necessary for neural network-based deep learning tasks, including hybrid face detection. Sounding a bit like Face ID on the iPhone X, the Exynos 9810 has the muscle to quickly processor 3D scans of a person's face using depth-sensing. There is also an additional security processing unit, which serves as a safe enclave for facial, iris, and fingerprint data.
On the connectivity front, the Exynos 9810 incorporates a 1.2Gbps Category 18 LTE modem (200Mbps uplink) that supports 6x carrier aggregation. And Samsung hasn't forgotten about multimedia performance, as Galaxy S9 smartphones equipped with the Exynos 9810 will be capable of recording (and playing back) UHD video at 120fps. There have also been optimizations to improve low light performance and out-of-focus photography for Samsung’s usually stellar onboard cameras.
As you might expect given that the launch of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ is right around the corner, Samsung says that the Exynos 9810 is already in mass production.
