Samsung Eyes Touch ID-Style Fingerprint Sensor For Galaxy S6
Samsung has been using fingerprint scanning as a security measure on several of its devices already, including its Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Tab S, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note Edge. However, the implementation on all of those devices is one of a swipe-based sensor. With the release of its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S6, Samsung will reportedly transition to a touch-based fingerprint sensor.
The name of the game here is better biometrics. As currently implemented, there just isn't enough surface area on the Home button, which oftentimes can lead to read errors. Registering a finger from multiple angles can help a great deal, though Samsung is finished fussing with its current design.
The Galaxy S6 will reportedly feature a larger size Home button compared to the Galaxy S5 shown here.
In the Galaxy S6, it's being reported that the new touch-based sensor will still be built into the Home button, though it will be a little bigger when compared with the Galaxy S5 and Note 4. Also, you won't need to swipe your finger on the sensor -- just place it down on the Home button at any angle. You can expect it to work similarly to Apple's iPhone 5S, 6, and 6 Plus devices.
In addition to a new sensor, Samsung will bring back several accompanying legacy software-based features, such as Fingerprint Unlock, Web Sign-In, Verify Samsung Account, Private Mode, and Pay with PayPal.
