Samsung Rumored To Launch Mid-Range Galaxy A90 With Flagship SD855 SoC And 5G
According to reliable gadget leaker OnLeaks, Samsung is preparing two versions of the Galaxy A90, and both look to be impressive mid-range smartphones catering to those that like huge displays. The A905 is the standard model accordion to OnLeaks, while A908 refers to the 5G model. Both will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6.7-inch display, and a trendy in-display fingerprint reader.
Both smartphones will also offer triple rear cameras: the standard A905 gets 48MP, 12MP and 5MP rear sensors along with what's being called Tilt Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The A908, on the other hand, will feature 48MP, 8MP, and 5MP sensor and lack the Tilt OIS functionality. We reckon that the additional components taken up by the 5G modem (likely a Snapdragon X50) and potentially larger battery could be the reason why this feature is left out.
Ice Universe is separately reporting that the Galaxy A90 5G (A908) will support blazing fast 45-watt fast charging over USB-C. For reference, the fastest charging device currently in Samsung's stable is the Galaxy S10 5G, which comes with a 25W power adapter.
5G wireless networks are still in their infancy, and there are very few smartphones on the market that support the next-generation standard. In fact, only the Galaxy S10 5G (which is priced at $1,299) along with the Motorola Moto Z3 and Moto Z4 (with the 5G Moto Mod) are certified to work on 5G networks in the United States. Perhaps the Galaxy A90 will ushers in a new wave of more affordable devices ahead of widespread 5G availability in 2020.
