See Samsung's Galaxy Fold From Every Angle In This Detailed Hands-On Video
Are you having trouble visualizing why you would need or otherwise want a foldable smartphone like the Galaxy Fold? It is a unique form factor for sure, and to give potential customers a better look at the Galaxy Fold and the different ways it might come in handy to have a folding design, Samsung posted a hands-on video to YouTube.
From a marketing standpoint, this is one of the better hands-on videos we have seen from a company. There is no commentary, no music playing in the background, and no advertising text—in short, there is no attempt to hype the Galaxy Fold in a traditional sense, other than giving users a 360-degree view of the handset and some examples of how it can be used.
Personally, I am not sold on the design, and the price is a tough pill to swallow. However, I can appreciate the innovation and why there would be interest in something like this.

The finished product is a decidedly premium handset that is far more polished than the prototype Samsung showed off prior to the Galaxy Fold's launch. It is still comparatively chunky to other smartphones, slightly more so than stacking two smartphones (because of the gap created by the hinge and angle of the fold. But it's also more functional—it's a mini tablet and smartphone in one.
In case you missed the unveiling, the Galaxy Fold wields a main 7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic OLED screen (4.2:3 aspect ratio) when opened up, and a 4.6-inch HD Super AMOLED (21:9 aspect ratio) cover display to use when closed.
It's powered by Qualcomm's 7-nanometer Snapdragon 855 processor and 12GB of LPDDR4 memory. Onboard storage checks in at 512GB, and there is a dual battery system with a combined 4,380 mAh capacity to keep this thing up and running, with fast charging (wired and wireless) support.
For taking photos, the Galaxy Fold boasts half a dozen cameras, including three in the back, two on the inside, and one on the cover.
All of this contributes to a price tag that approaches two grand—the Galaxy Fold starts at $1,980 and will be available in the second quarter.
