Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Flagship Might Abandon Headphone Jack With Major Redesign
When been hearing plenty of rumors about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 10, and one of the most frequent ones has been that the device will forgo traditional buttons. A new report is now adding more credence to those rumors.
According to a report from Android Police, it has received further confirmation that the Galaxy note 10 will usher in Samsung's latest push to kill physical buttons. In its place will be either pressure-sensitive or capacitive touch buttons that don't physically move. Such a move would help to improve water resistance, and perhaps to cut down on button failures, but we don't know how big of an issue that latter point is for users.
While this shift has been expected all along, there's one other big change that is reportedly in the works, and it is unlikely to be warmly welcomed. According to the report, the Galaxy Note 10 will abandon its 3.5mm headphone jack. This would be a big change for Samsung, which has stuck by the 3.5mm headphone jack for its flagship smartphones; including the Galaxy S10 family that launched earlier this year.
So why exactly would Samsung kill a fan-favorite feature? The popular opinion seems to be that the Samsung would like to reclaim every bit of potential "wasted" space within the chassis to install a larger battery, which mean that the 3.5mm headphone jack has to go. Or it could just be peer pressure -- everyone else is doing it.
The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be available in four SKUs: 6.28-inch and 6.75-inch display sizes with or without 5G radios. We can also expect Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoCs for the U.S. market, an in-display fingerprint reader and a whole host of cameras back and front.
As we've previously mentioned, we expect that the Galaxy Note 10 will be one of the most expensive smartphones that Samsung has ever released. With the Galaxy S10+ starting at $999 and the Galaxy S10 5G ringing in at $1,299, you had better be willing to fork over the big bucks to step into a Galaxy Note 10.
