Samsung Galaxy Note 8 To Offer Android 7.1.1 Goodness And 6.3-Inch OLED Infinity Display
Having identified the issue that doomed the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 and subsequently put in place more rigorous testing methods to ensure that situation does not repeat itself, Samsung is now getting ready to launch the Galaxy Note 8. That will take place sometime later this year. In the meantime, the Internet is awash with rumors and speculation, the latest of which points to the Galaxy Note 8 debuting with an Infinity Display and Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.
The Galaxy Note series is popular among people who crave a larger size handset. It was previously rumored that the Galaxy Note 8 would fit the bill with a 6.3-inch OLED display, putting the device squarely into phablet territory. A 6.3-inch panel would also give users more than half an inch of additional screen real-estate compared to the previous model.
A Dutch website says that it can somehow "confirm" that the Galaxy Note 8 will have the same aspect ratio as the Galaxy S8 (18.5:9), and that it will sport a similar Infinity display. That implies the Galaxy Note 8 will not have a physical Home button. As to the display resolution, it is not clear if Samsung will go with a 4K Ultra HD panel or not.
The same source also says that Samsung is currently testing the Galaxy Note 8 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. That choice is likely a result of timing—Android O is not yet available in finalized form and is instead undergoing testing as a developer preview. That said, there are handsets that already on a path to Android O, namely the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3.
