Samsung Galaxy S9 And S9+ U.S. Carrier Pricing And Pre-order Dates Revealed
Samsung today officially announced the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagships, and it looks like the South Korean electronics giant has another winner on its hands. Thankfully for anyone looking to purchase these new smartphones, pricing hasn't shifted too much compared to last year's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
Here's a rundown of how much the smartphones will cost depending on which carrier you choose, or if you want to purchase straight from Samsung.
Samsung is charging $719.99 for the Galaxy S9 and $839.99 for the Galaxy S9+, unlocked. If you don't care to plunk down that much money at once, Samsung offers financing options priced at $30 per month for the Galaxy S9 and $35 per month for the Galaxy S9+ (both terms are for 24 months).
Samsung offers up to $350 off the purchase of either smartphone with an eligible trade-in.
T-Mobile's off-contract pricing mirrors that of Samsung, but it does have its own installment pricing scheme available. Using T-Mobile's Equipment Installment Plan (EIP), you can get a Galaxy S9 for $0 down and pay $30 a month for 24 months. If you want the Galaxy S9+, you will actually have to put down $120, but will pay the same $30/month until the device is fully paid off.
In addition, if you trade-in an eligible smartphone, you can get up to $360 off the price of either smartphone. The $360 will be credited back to your account each month instead of customers receiving a one-time lump sum payment up front (or after a few months).
AT&T is a bit of an outlier with regards to off-contract pricing. You can purchase the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ for $790 and $915 outright, which boggles the mind. Why would customers want to go the AT&T route if they can pay far less buying direct from Samsung?
With that being said, financing offers put the Galaxy S9 at $26.34 per month, while the Galaxy S9+ comes in at $30.50 per month. Both listed prices are paid over a 30-month term with AT&T.
AT&T is offering up to $350 off the price of either phone, although you will be need to trade in a 2017 flagship device to get that maximum value (i.e. an iPhone 8 or Galaxy S8). But unless you simply want the no-hassle experience of trading in via your carrier, you can fetch far more for one of those devices by selling on an online marketplace like eBay or Swappa.
Verizon's off-contract pricing is also higher than Samsung, and even surprisingly surpasses what AT&T charges. You're looking at $800 for the Galaxy S9 and $930 for the Galaxy S9+. If you go with an installment plan, the Galaxy S9 will set you back $33.33/month for 24 months, while the Galaxy S9+ foes for $38.74/month for 24 months.
Like the other wireless carriers, Verizon offers up to $350 trade-in value depending on the age of your current smartphone.
All U.S. carriers will offer the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in Lilac Purple, Midnight Black or Coral Blue. Preorders begin on March 2 from Samsung and all listed carriers, and the phones will be in stores (or ship) on March 16.
